Whisky Flavour Finder
Use the Whisky Flavour Finder to turn flavour preferences into a shortlist of whisky to explore. Choose the characteristics you want and those you would rather avoid; the planned tool will match those choices against documented flavour descriptions, not a ranking of quality.
This page describes the tool's intended inputs and matching method. The interactive finder is not yet available, and no whisky recommendations have been generated for this page.
[TOOL TO BUILD]
How to use the Whisky Flavour Finder
Start with one or two flavour preferences rather than trying to describe your ideal whisky in full. You will be able to change your selections and compare how the shortlist changes, without treating the first result as a final answer.
Choose your preferred notes. The planned controls will include smoke, fruit, floral notes, spice, cereal and oak. These are search tags for organising descriptions, not promises that every whisky assigned a tag will taste the same.
Next, select any notes you want to avoid. Leave a preference blank if you have no view; a blank selection will not count for or against a match. The finder will not require you to choose a country, brand or age.
Finally, open a result's evidence details. Each match should explain which selected notes are documented, which avoided notes appear in its record, and which preferences remain unknown.
How matching will work
The proposed matching rule is deliberately simple: add one point for each preferred tag supported by a record, and subtract one point for each avoided tag supported by that record. An unknown tag contributes no points and remains labelled unknown, rather than being treated as absent.
Results will be ordered by this preference score, with equal scores shown as ties. A score measures agreement with the tags you selected, not quality, drinking suitability or the likelihood that you will enjoy a particular whisky. With no preferences selected, the tool will ask for a selection instead of inventing a match.
What a result will show
Each result will identify the whisky record being matched and display its supporting source, the date that source was checked and the description behind each tag. A producer's tasting description will be labelled as the producer's account, not presented as a tasting conducted by this website.
A description attached to a particular expression will not automatically be applied to every whisky from the same brand or distillery. Records without sufficient supporting descriptions will be marked not verified and kept out of scored recommendations.
Evidence and limits
The planned data source is the site's verified records, with each flavour tag traceable to the published description that supports it. No source dataset or individual whisky records have been supplied for this page, so there are currently no verified matches to display.
Use the eventual shortlist as a route into the evidence, not as a substitute for it. The finder will not infer flavour from colour, age, origin or strength, and it will not recommend a whisky merely because it has a higher alcohol content.
Sources
No external sources are cited because this page specifies a proposed tool rather than reporting whisky characteristics or displaying verified results.
The page was prepared from the P08 item brief and the supplied editorial requirements; no tasting, dataset testing or live tool testing was undertaken.
