Whisky Quiz

The Whisky Quiz is designed to help you test your whisky knowledge and understand the answers, not just collect a score. Choose an answer to each question, then use the explanations to see what you knew and what deserves another look.

This is a learning tool for adults of legal drinking age. You do not need a bottle, a glass or any tasting experience to take part.

How the quiz works

The intended format is multiple choice, with one correct answer per question. Select the answer you think is right, submit it and read the explanation before moving on. There is no time limit in the proposed design, so you can pause over a question rather than guess quickly.

[TOOL TO BUILD]

How your score is calculated

The scoring rule is one point for each correct answer and zero points for an incorrect answer. Your result should show the number answered correctly alongside the total number of eligible questions, including unanswered questions, so the basis of the result is clear.

Percentage score = (correct answers / scored questions) × 100.

If you leave a question unanswered, it should be shown as unanswered rather than silently treated as a submitted answer. A percentage should appear only after at least one answer has been submitted and there is at least one eligible question; an empty session has no score.

What makes a fair question

Each question needs a clear subject and enough context to make one answer defensible. Where an answer depends on a country's rules, the question must name that country or jurisdiction rather than imply that one definition applies everywhere.

The answer explanation should identify the supporting source and explain why the correct answer is right, including when the selected answer is incorrect. Questions about changing rules or other dated information need a visible checking date and should be withdrawn from scoring if their answer can no longer be verified.

Use the result to learn

A missed answer is a useful place to start, not a verdict on your interest in whisky. Read the explanation first, then try to describe the distinction in your own words before attempting the question again.

A repeat attempt can help you check what you remember, but a higher score on familiar questions is not the same as independently demonstrating broader knowledge. The quiz is not a professional qualification, a tasting assessment or evidence of competence to give legal advice.

Before you begin

Use the quiz without drinking along. It should never ask you to identify a spirit by consuming it, reward drinking or turn a wrong answer into a drinking penalty.

Your answers and the result

The tool's inputs are your selected answers; its output is a score with explanations for the questions you attempted. It should not infer your age, drinking habits or preferences from those answers. Any question with an ambiguous answer must be corrected or removed, not counted against you.
